The city is known for its cultural and folkloric richness, the greatest expression of which is the Oruro Carnival, which attracts thousands of national and international visitors every year. In 2001, it was declared a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO, thus recognizing its multicultural and religious value.
The Ajayu International Animation Festival, founded in 2016 in Puno, is the first event in Peru dedicated exclusively to animation. It brings together national and international works and offers screenings, workshops, and training spaces that promote the creation and dissemination of stories with Andean cultural identity.
The Andimotion Festival focuses on promoting emerging animation, especially from students and new talent in Colombia and Latin America. Its program includes animated shorts, video games, virtual reality, and digital design. It awards prizes in several categories and encourages encounters between young creators and industry professionals.
